What is a kingdom? It is the government of a king; his soverign rule and governing influence over the territory he claims – the king’s domain. He is influening his domain with his will, his intent, his desires, and his purposes which creates a culture that reflects the king’s nature, values, and morals.
While Jesus was on the earth, His message throughout His ministry was Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is near. Why would He preach this message? It was Jesus intention to re-establish the Kingdom that Adam had lost at the Garden of Eden? If fact, in Isaiah 9:6-7 it talks about His Kingdom.
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. Upon the throne of David and over His Kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Jesus’ Kingdom is a peaceful Kingdom that will last forever. It is to be established with judgment and justice. It will increase and spread all across the earth. It is a Heaven on earth Kingdom! In John 18, Pilate and Jesus are discussing His Kingdom and Him being a King.
John 18:33 (NKJV) Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, Are You the King of the Jews? 34 Jesus answered him, Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me? 35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done? 36 Jesus answered, My Kingdom is not of this world. If My Kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My Kingdom is from here. 37 Pilate therefore said to Him, Are You a king then? Jesus answered, You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.
Jesus said to Pilate, You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born and come into the world. He was born to re-establish the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, which only a king can do. Therefore as the Son of God and a Victor against satan, He was able to re-establish the Kingdom of Heaven. This is the truth Jesus was talking about. He is the King that will re-establish the connection to the Kingdom of God.
Adam lost the kingdom connection when he rebelled against God in eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But through Jesus coming to earth and going to the Cross, He was able to re-establish this kingdom connection for all mankind who believe on the Son of God. We are kings again thanks to our Savior.
The king is the ultimate and only source of authority in his kingdom. He is the central component of the kingdom. Therefore his word is the law, authority, and constitution. What the king says is law. And because authority is absolute, he is the one that determines and establishes the standards and procedures of citizenship in his kingdom. Jesus is the central component of the Kingdom of Heaven. It is Him being the Word of God and having authority that matters. He is the One that determines the law and principles of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The king’s name is the essence of his authority. The Name of Jesus is mighty especially when we use it with the authority Jesus gives us. As citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven, we have the privilege of receiving blessings as we were the King Lord himself by utilizing the King’s name. Jesus delegate His authority to His citizens — the believers. We are to pray in His Name because He promised to do anything we ask in His Name.
We as citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven are to reflect God’s nature and character. He is righteous, just, benevolent, compassionate, and full of glory. Thus there is no poverty in the Kingdom, no economic crisis, and no shortages. He is rich beyond measure for He created all the earth and has ownership of our planet. He is the Creator. But we gave us rulership and dominion in Genesis.
Genesis 1:26 (NKJV) Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness: let them have dominion over the fish of the sea: over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
Revelation 17: 14 (NKJV) These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lord and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful. … 19:16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: King of kings and Lord of lords.
The Lord Jesus who is the Lamb of God is the King of kings and Lord of lords. What exactly does that mean? It means He is the King and Lord of all the believers who step into their role as king and lord over the domain that God has given him to occupy and rule over.
Jesus Christ — the Son of God– is the King of the Kingdom of Heaven. We are the kings of the rulership of the earth dominion.
