The people of Israel were to eat matzah or unleavened bread for seven days during this feast. Matzah is a flat bread that has not given time to rise. The night they were thrown out of Egypt that bread was not given time to rise; therefore this feast is a memorial of that time of leaving Egypt is a hurry. This is why the unleavened bread or matzzh is called the bread of affliction.

In making sure that there were no leaven within their homes, they had to clean their homes before the Spring Feasts. This time became known as Spring Cleaning. They had a ceremony where a piece of leaven was left to sweep up and then burn in a fire. The leaven that was left was the Chametz (sin).

They would use a candle to search for the Chametz. The Wprd of is a candle or lamp to us. They would use a feather and a wooden spoon to sweep the chametz up. The feather is the dove of the Holy Spirit. The spoon is the Cross Jesus died on. They would put the chametz in a linen and the burned it in a fire. The linen represents the burial clothes of Jesus. The fire represents the burnt offering Jesus sacrificed all of Himself for our redemption.

The matzah is cooked with pierced holes to keep it from rising. Then once cooked there are stripes on it from cooking. The stripes represent the stripes Jesus received scrouging from the soldiers. The holes represent the spear piercing He received on the cross.

Matzah is a flat bread that has no leaven or yeast in it to make it rise. Leaven or yeast in the Bible means sin.  The matzah or unleavened represents Jesus as the sinless Bread from heaven. Jesus is the Bread of Life or in Hebrew LeChemMaChayim.

John 6:32 Then Jesus said to them, Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. 34 Then they said to Him, Lord, give us this bread always. 35 And Jesus said to them, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. … 41 The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, I am the Bread which came down from heaven. … 48 I am the bread of life. …50 This is the breqd which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. 61 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.

Luke 2:4 Jospeh also went up from Galilee, out of th city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethelehem, because he was of th ehouse and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn,

Matthew 1:24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus. 2: Now after Jesus was born in Bethelehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Jesus was born in Bethelehem, which in Hebrew means House of Bread. According to the Talmud, Bethelehem is where the Passover lambs were breed and raised for the Passover Feast. Jesus is both the Bread of Life and the Passover Lamb of God.

2 Corinthiand 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

1 Corinthians 5:6 Your glory is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? 7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, not with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Jesus was sinless during His life on earth. The Father put all of our sins on Jesus while on the Cross, so that we would become righteous in Christ Jesus. He is our Passover Lamb sacrificed for us. Therefore, let’s remember and keep the Feast and purge out the leaven or sin from our lives. Let’s celebrate with the unleavened or sinless bread of sincerity and truth.
