Leviticus 23 16 Count fifty daysto the day after the seventh Sabbath: then you shall offer a new grain offering to the Lord. 17 You shall bring from your dwellings two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour: they shall be baked with leaven. They are the firstfruits to the Lord. .
Acccrding to Scripture, counting from Feast of Firstfruits (16 Nisan) fifty days, one would arrive at 6 Sivan. In Hebrew the Feast is called the Feast of Shavuot. In the Greek, fifty days is Pentecost. In the Bible the number 50 means liberty, freedom, and deliverance.
According to the rabbic writings, the fifty day from leaving Egypt was the day that the Lord God descend on Mount Sinai in fire and gave Israel the Torah (the Law). In the New Testament, on Pentecost, God gave those in the Upper Room, the baptism of the Holy Spirit that looked like tongues of fire.
Exodus 19:16 Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot on the mountain. 18 Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
There were thunder, lighting, the cloud, and the trumpet was to draw the people together. The fire signified that the presence of God was there.
Acts 2:1When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Once again, sounds from heaven – mighty rushing wind. The fire again indicated the Presence of God.
It is known as the Feast of Harvest for it is the day where wheat is being harvested. Wheat is an indication of the church. Barley is Israel. The two loaves being baked is the people of God from Israel and the Gentiles.
